History of Rohwer

Rohwer has a very important place in American history, especially during World War II. It was once the site of a Japanese American internment camp. During the war, many people of Japanese descent living in the United States were forced to leave their homes and live in these camps.

The camp at Rohwer was designed by an architect named Edward F. Neild. It first opened in March 1942. Today, the site is known as the Rohwer War Relocation Center, and it serves as a memorial to the people who lived there.

Education for Students

Students living in Rohwer attend schools that are part of the McGehee School District.

Before 2004, Rohwer was served by the Delta Special School District. This district had two schools: Delta Elementary School and Delta High School. However, in 2004, a law in Arkansas required smaller school districts to join with larger ones. The Delta Special district merged with the McGehee district on July 1, 2004.

After the merger, the McGehee district continued to operate the Delta Elementary and Delta High schools for a while. By October 2005, the Delta campus only served elementary students. By October 2006, the Delta campus was no longer used as a school.
