Romulo Barral (born May 3, 1982) is a famous Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu athlete and teacher. He is known for being one of the best fighters in the medium-heavyweight division. Romulo has earned many championships throughout his career. He is a black belt under his teacher, Vinicius "Draculino" Magalhães. Romulo competes for the Gracie Barra team.
He has won the IBJJF World Championship five times. These wins were in 2006, 2007, 2009, 2012, and 2014. He also won a World No-Gi Championship in 2007. In 2013, he became the ADCC Submission Wrestling World Champion. In August 2011, Romulo opened his own Gracie Barra school in Northridge, California. This made him a well-known coach.

Romulo Barral's Early Life
Romulo Barral was born in Diamantina, Minas Gerais, Brazil. He started learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu when he was a teenager. His first teacher was Vinicius "Draculino" Magalhães. Romulo trained in Belo Horizonte.
He learned BJJ through the Gracie Barra system. He quickly developed a strong and active fighting style. Romulo became especially good at the spider guard and triangle submissions. He moved up through the belt ranks very fast. In 2004, he earned his black belt from Draculino. Soon after, he became a strong competitor in the meio pesado (medium-heavyweight) division.
Romulo Barral's Competitive Journey
Romulo Barral's career is marked by his many wins. He was especially strong in the IBJJF World Championships. He won black belt titles in his weight class in 2006, 2007, 2009, 2012, and 2014. His year 2007 was very special. He also won the World No-Gi Championship that year. This showed he was great at both gi (with uniform) and no-gi (without uniform) fighting.
In the open weight division, Romulo won silver medals. These were at the IBJJF Worlds in 2007, 2009, and 2012. He often faced bigger opponents but still did well. His biggest win was in 2013.
