Ron Brewer's Early Life and High School Basketball
Ron Brewer grew up in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He played basketball at Fort Smith Northside High School.
Playing for the Grizzlies
During his senior year in 1974, Brewer helped lead his high school team, the Northside Grizzlies, to an amazing season. They won the Overall Championship and finished with a perfect record of 30 wins and 0 losses.
College Basketball Star
After high school, Brewer first attended Westark Community College. This school is now known as the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith.
The Arkansas "Triplets"
Later, Ron Brewer joined the University of Arkansas team. He played for coach Eddie Sutton. At Arkansas, he became famous as one of the "Triplets." The other two "Triplets" were Sidney Moncrief and Marvin Delph.
In 1978, Brewer was named an All-American, which means he was recognized as one of the best college players in the country. He scored an average of 18.0 points per game that year. He also helped the Arkansas Razorbacks reach the Final Four in the 1978 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament. He was even named to the All-Tournament Team.

Ron Brewer was a top pick in the 1978 NBA draft. The Portland Trail Blazers chose him as the 7th player overall.
Drafted by the Trail Blazers
He was drafted right after basketball legend Larry Bird. Other great players like Reggie Theus and Maurice Cheeks were drafted after him. In his first year, the 1978–79 season, Brewer was named to the NBA All-Rookie Team. This award goes to the best new players in the league.
On October 14, 1979, Ron Brewer made history for the Trail Blazers. He was the first player on their team to score a three-point shot in a regular season game.
Playing for Many Teams
Brewer played for eight seasons in the NBA. He played for six different teams during his career. These teams included the Trail Blazers, San Antonio Spurs, Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, New Jersey Nets, and Chicago Bulls. He finished his NBA career in 1986. Over his career, he scored a total of 5,971 points, averaging 11.9 points per game.

After his playing career, Ron Brewer continued to be involved in basketball. He is currently a head coach at City University in Memphis, Tennessee.
A Family of Basketball Players
Ron Brewer's son, Ronnie Brewer, also became a professional basketball player. Ronnie played college basketball at the University of Arkansas, just like his father. He was then drafted by the Utah Jazz in the first round of the 2006 NBA draft.
In 2010, Ronnie joined the Chicago Bulls. This made Ron and Ronnie Brewer the first father-son duo to play for the Chicago Bulls in the team's history.
