Ron J. Henson is an important public official in the state of Louisiana. He helps manage the state's money and has worked for the government for over 40 years. For a time, he was even the main Treasurer of Louisiana.

Ron Henson's Early Life and Education

Ron J. Henson was born in Searcy, Arkansas. He grew up in a town called El Dorado, Arkansas. He went to college at Louisiana Tech University, where he earned a degree in Business Administration. He also studied at the University of Arkansas. To learn even more about managing money, he took special finance classes at the Kellogg School of Management in Illinois.

Ron Henson's Government Work

Ron Henson has a lot of experience working for the government. For 17 years, he was the top assistant to the State Treasurer, John Neely Kennedy. In this role, he helped manage a large budget of over $10 million and led a team of more than 80 people.

He has held many other important jobs too. He worked for the Louisiana Department of Economic Development and the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism. He was also a top helper for Governor Buddy Roemer and Lieutenant Governor Melinda Schwegmann. For 14 years, he worked in the office that helps the Louisiana lawmakers understand money matters.

In 2014, Ron Henson received a special award called the Monte M. Lemann Award. This award recognized his excellent work in public service. He also volunteers his time to help many non-profit groups. These include the National WWII Museum and the Louisiana Business and Technology Center.

Ron Henson as State Treasurer

Ron J. Henson became the 23rd Treasurer of Louisiana on January 7, 2017. He took on this role after John Kennedy was elected to the United States Senate. A special election was held later that year, on November 18, 2017, to choose a new permanent treasurer.

As the Treasurer, Ron Henson was in charge of nearly $5 billion of the state's money. He also led the State Bond Commission, which makes decisions about how the state borrows money. One of his important jobs was to help return millions of dollars in unclaimed property to the people of Louisiana. This is money that people forgot about or didn't know they had.
