Ron Meeks: A Football Journey
Ron Meeks began his football journey playing for the Robert E. Lee Generals in Jacksonville, Florida, during his high school years.
Playing Days: From College to Pro
After high school, Meeks played college football at Arkansas State University. He then went on to play professionally in the Canadian Football League (CFL).
He played for several CFL teams:
- Hamilton Tiger-Cats from 1977 to 1979
- Ottawa Rough Riders in 1979
- Toronto Argonauts from 1980 to 1981
Coaching Career: From College to the NFL
Ron Meeks started his coaching career in college football. He coached at his alma mater, Arkansas State, from 1984 to 1985. He then coached at Miami (1986–1987), New Mexico State (1988), and Fresno State (1989–1990).
Coaching in the NFL
Meeks moved to the National Football League (NFL) in 1991, joining the Dallas Cowboys. He coached for several NFL teams, including:

Success with the Indianapolis Colts
In 2002, Ron Meeks joined the Indianapolis Colts as their defensive coordinator. He held this important role until January 20, 2009. During his time with the Colts, the team achieved a major victory. They won Super Bowl XLI in 2007, making Ron Meeks a Super Bowl champion.
Later Coaching Roles
After leaving the Colts, Meeks became the defensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers on January 26, 2009. His contract with the Panthers ended after the 2010 season. However, he was re-signed by the Panthers as their defensive backs coach on January 17, 2011. On January 24, 2012, Meeks agreed to become the new defensive backs coach for the San Diego Chargers.
