Ronald Peter Perranoski (born April 1, 1936 – died October 2, 2020) was a talented American baseball player and coach. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a left-handed relief pitcher. He played from 1961 to 1973. He was best known for playing with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He helped them reach three World Series. He also played for the Minnesota Twins, who won two division titles. He also played for the Detroit Tigers and the California Angels. After playing, Ron became a pitching coach. He helped the Dodgers win two more World Series in the 1980s.

Ron's Baseball Journey

Ron was born in Paterson, New Jersey. He grew up in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. He went to Fair Lawn High School there.

He went to Michigan State University. There, he played baseball with Dick Radatz. Dick also became a great relief pitcher.

Playing for the Dodgers

In 1963, Ron had an amazing season. He won 16 games as a relief pitcher. His team, the Los Angeles Dodgers, won the 1963 World Series. They beat the New York Yankees in four straight games. Ron pitched in Game Two and helped secure a win.

Life After Playing Baseball

After his playing days, Ron stayed in baseball. From 1973 to 1980, he helped train young pitchers. He worked as the Dodgers' minor league pitching coordinator.

Then, he became the main pitching coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers. He held this job for 14 seasons, from 1981 to 1994. During this time, the Dodgers won two more World Series.

In 1995, Ron joined the San Francisco Giants. He helped their minor league pitchers. Later, he became their bench coach in 1997. From 1998 to 1999, he was their pitching coach. After that, he worked as a special assistant to the general manager.

In 1983, Ron was honored. He was added to the National Polish-American Sports Hall of Fame.

Ron Perranoski passed away at his home. He died in Vero Beach, Florida, on October 2, 2020. He had been ill for a long time.
