Ronald Darby (born January 2, 1994) is an American former professional football player. He played as a cornerback for 10 seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Florida State Seminoles. The Buffalo Bills selected him in the second round of the 2015 NFL draft. He also played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Commanders, Denver Broncos, Baltimore Ravens, and Jacksonville Jaguars. Ronald Darby retired from professional football on June 2, 2025.
Before his football career, Darby was a world-class sprinter in high school. He won medals at the 2011 World Youth Championships in Athletics.

Early Life and Athletics
Ronald Darby grew up in Oxon Hill, Maryland. He went to Potomac High School. There, he was a talented athlete, playing many different positions in football. He was especially good on defense. In 2011, he was named a High School All-American by USA Today and Sports Illustrated.
Darby was also an amazing sprinter. He won a bronze medal in the 200-meter race at the 2011 World Youth Championships in Athletics. He also helped his team win a gold medal in the medley relay at the same event. His fastest times were 6.77 seconds in the 60 meters, 10.41 seconds in the 100 meters, and 21.05 seconds in the 200 meters.

College Football Career
Darby played college football at Florida State University. As a freshman, he was part of a strong defense. He earned the ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year award in 2012. He was also named a Freshman All-American.
In 2013, as a sophomore, he helped his team win the 2013 BCS National Championship Game. This was a huge achievement for the team. After his junior year in 2014, Darby decided to enter the NFL draft.
Professional Football Journey
Joining the NFL: Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills picked Ronald Darby in the second round of the 2015 NFL draft. He was the 50th player chosen overall. He signed a four-year contract with the Bills.
First Seasons with the Bills (2015-2016)
In his first game in 2015, Darby made an interception against the Indianapolis Colts. He had a great rookie year, with 68 tackles and 21 pass deflections. He was named the AFC Defensive Rookie of the Month for September. He also made the PFWA All-Rookie Team.
In 2016, Darby continued as a starting cornerback for the Bills. He had 69 tackles and 12 pass deflections. He played in 14 games that season.
Moving to the Philadelphia Eagles
In August 2017, the Bills traded Darby to the Philadelphia Eagles. He quickly became a starting cornerback for the Eagles.
Super Bowl Champion (2017)
Darby's first season with the Eagles was exciting. He suffered an ankle injury early in the season, but he returned to play. He helped the Eagles win Super Bowl LII in February 2018. He had four tackles and two pass deflections in the Super Bowl. This was a major highlight of his career.
Later Seasons with the Eagles (2018-2019)
In 2018, Darby continued to play well. However, he suffered a torn ACL (a knee injury) in November. This injury ended his season early.
He returned in 2019, signing a new one-year contract with the Eagles. He played in 11 games, recording 37 tackles and two interceptions. He dealt with a hamstring injury and a hip injury during this season.
Time with Washington Football Team (2020)
In 2020, Darby signed with the Washington Football Team. He started all 16 games that season. He had 55 tackles and 16 pass deflections, showing his consistent play.
Playing for the Denver Broncos (2021-2022)
In 2021, Darby joined the Denver Broncos on a three-year contract. He started 11 games, making 53 tackles. He had a very high overall grade from Pro Football Focus, ranking sixth among all cornerbacks.
In 2022, he started five games before suffering another torn ACL in October. This injury ended his season. The Broncos released him in March 2023.
Short Stays with Baltimore and Jacksonville (2023-2024)
In August 2023, Darby signed with the Baltimore Ravens. He played in 16 games and started seven, recording 28 tackles.
In March 2024, he signed a two-year contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He played in 13 games for the Jaguars before being benched late in the season. The Jaguars released him in March 2025.
Retirement with the Houston Texans (2025)
On March 17, 2025, Ronald Darby signed a one-year contract with the Houston Texans. However, on June 2, 2025, he announced his retirement from professional football.
