Ronja, the Robber's Daughter (Japanese: 山賊の娘ローニャ, Hepburn: Sanzoku no Musume Rōnya) is a Japanese computer-animated TV show. It is based on the famous book Ronia, the Robber's Daughter by Astrid Lindgren. This series was made by Polygon Pictures and Studio Ghibli, among others. Gorō Miyazaki directed the show. He said it's a story about a girl growing up, and also about love, family, and friendship. It's the first TV series ever made by Studio Ghibli.

The show was first shown in Japan in 2014. Later, it became available in other countries. For example, Amazon started streaming it in the US in 2017. The English version is narrated by Gillian Anderson.

The Story of Ronja

Ronja is the only child of a bandit chief named Mattis. She grows up with his group of robbers in a big castle in the woods of Scandinavia. When Ronja gets old enough, she starts exploring the forest on her own. She discovers many amazing things and also learns about the dangers, like magical creatures. She learns to be strong and survive in the wild, sometimes with help from her parents.

Ronja's life changes when she meets a boy her age named Birk. He is the son of Borka, the leader of a rival bandit group. Birk and his family have moved into the other half of Ronja's castle! This creates a big problem between the two families. Ronja and Birk become friends, but their families are enemies. This makes things very difficult for them.
