Early Life and College Basketball

Ronnie McMahan grew up playing basketball and became a star player at McMinn County High School. He played there for two years under coach Ron Baker.

After high school, McMahan went on to play college basketball at Vanderbilt University. He played for the Vanderbilt Commodores from 1992 to 1995. During his time there, he became one of the best scorers in the school's history. He finished his college career as the fourth all-time leading scorer for Vanderbilt, with a total of 1,719 points. Only Shan Foster, Matt Freije, and Phil Cox scored more points than him.

McMahan was also excellent at shooting from long range. He made 296 three-point baskets, which is the second-highest number for a Vanderbilt player, right after Shan Foster. His talent was recognized when he was named to the Associated Press and Coaches All-SEC Third Team in 1994. The next year, in 1995, he was named to the AP and Coaches All-SEC Second Team. The All-SEC teams honor the best players in the Southeastern Conference, a group of universities that compete in sports. McMahan also earned a college degree in Human and Organizational Development.

Professional Basketball Career

Ronnie McMahan started his professional basketball journey in the spring of 1995. He joined the United States Basketball League (USBL) and played for the Jackson Jackals. He quickly made an impact and was named to the league's All-Rookie team, which means he was one of the best new players in the league.

Later in 1995, McMahan had a chance to play for the famous Chicago Bulls team in the NBA. He was on their roster for the 1995–96 season, but he was waived (released from the team) in October. After leaving the Bulls, he played for the Chicago Rockers in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA), another professional league. He played there until January 1996. McMahan continued his professional career overseas, playing for Atomeromu SE Paks in Hungary during the 2002-2003 season. This was his final season as a professional player.
