Rosa Albach-Retty (born Rosa Clara Franziska Helene Retty; 26 December 1874 – 26 August 1980) was a famous Austrian actress. She performed on both stage and in films. She came from a family of actors and lived to be 105 years old.

A Life on Stage: Rosa Albach-Retty's Acting Career

Rosa was born into a family of actors. Her father, Rudolf Retty, was also an actor and director. He trained her to act. She started her stage career in 1890. She performed at the Deutsches Theater and the Lessing Theater in Berlin.

She was known for playing different types of roles. Sometimes she played "breeches roles." This meant she played male characters or women dressed in men's clothes. She performed in plays like Little Lord Fauntleroy. In 1895, she moved to the Volkstheater in Vienna. Later, in 1903, she joined the Burgtheater. This was a very important theater. She became an honorary member of the Burgtheater in 1928. Her final stage performance was in 1958.

Family Connections: A Legacy of Actors

Rosa Albach-Retty married Karl Albach, an army officer. They had a son named Wolf Albach-Retty. He also became a well-known Austrian movie actor. Wolf married German actress Magda Schneider.

This made Rosa the grandmother of the famous actress Romy Schneider. Romy Schneider was a very popular movie star. Rosa was also the great-grandmother of actress Sarah Biasini. Her family continued her acting legacy for generations.
