Rosa Salazar (born July 16, 1985) is an American actress. She is known for her roles in popular TV shows and movies. Rosa became famous for playing the main character in the film Alita: Battle Angel (2019). She also starred in the TV series Brand New Cherry Flavor (2021), which she helped produce.
Before her big breakthrough, Rosa had roles in the TV series Parenthood (2011–2012) and American Horror Story: Murder House (2011). She also appeared in movies like The Divergent Series: Insurgent (2015), Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015), and Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018). You might also know her from the Netflix films The Kindergarten Teacher (2018) and Bird Box (2018). Currently, she stars in the Amazon series Undone (2019–2022).

Early life and education
Rosa Salazar was born on July 16, 1985. Her father is from Peru, and her mother is French-Canadian. She grew up in Washington, D.C. and Greenbelt, Maryland.
Rosa went to Greenbelt Middle School and Eleanor Roosevelt High School. She was very active in the school's theater program. After high school, she studied drama at Prince George's Community College. She continued her drama studies at Upright Citizens Brigade. There, she learned different acting styles, including improvisation.
Acting career highlights
Rosa Salazar loved to entertain people from the age of fifteen. She decided to become a serious actress after moving to New York City. In New York, she appeared in several funny videos for CollegeHumor.
In 2009, she moved to Los Angeles. Soon after, she made her first movie appearance in Jamesy Boy. She then got regular roles on two popular TV shows: American Horror Story: Murder House and Parenthood.
In 2015, Rosa starred in some big movie sequels. She played Lynn in The Divergent Series: Insurgent. She also played Brenda in Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials. She returned as Brenda in Maze Runner: The Death Cure in 2018.
Directing and major roles
In 2016, Rosa directed and starred in a short film called Good Crazy. This film was nominated for an award at the Sundance Film Festival.
Her biggest role came in 2019 with the movie Alita: Battle Angel. She played the main character, Alita. This film was based on a Japanese comic book series called Gunnm. Her performance in Alita: Battle Angel earned her several awards. These included "Best Visual Effects or Animated Performance" and "Best Voice or Motion Capture Performance."
In 2019, it was announced that Rosa would have a main role in the Netflix horror drama series Brand New Cherry Flavor. This series was released on August 13, 2021.
In 2023, Rosa Salazar was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. This is the group that gives out the Oscar awards.
