Rosa Salazar, born on July 16, 1985, is an American actress. She became well-known for her roles in TV shows like Parenthood (2011–2012) and American Horror Story: Murder House (2011).
Her big break came when she played the main character in the movie Alita: Battle Angel (2019). She also starred in the series Brand New Cherry Flavor (2021), where she helped produce the show too.
Salazar has appeared in several popular films, including The Divergent Series: Insurgent (2015), Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015), and Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018). She also acted in the Netflix movies The Kindergarten Teacher (2018) and Bird Box (2018). Since 2019, she has been starring in the Amazon series Undone.

Her Early Life and Education
Rosa Salazar was born in Washington, D.C. on July 16, 1985. Her father is from Peru, and her mother is French-Canadian. She grew up in Washington, D.C., and a nearby town called Greenbelt, Maryland.
Rosa went to Greenbelt Middle School and Eleanor Roosevelt High School. There, she was very involved in the school's theater program. She later studied drama at Prince George's Community College. She continued her acting studies at Upright Citizens Brigade, where she learned different acting styles like improvisation.
Starting Her Acting Career
Rosa Salazar loved to entertain people from the age of 15. She decided to become a serious actress after moving to New York City as a young adult. In New York, she appeared in several funny videos for a website called CollegeHumor.
After moving to Los Angeles in 2009, she got her first movie role as a character named Crystal in Jamesy Boy. Soon after, she landed regular roles on two popular TV shows: American Horror Story: Murder House and Parenthood.
In 2015, she appeared in two big movie sequels. She played Lynn in The Divergent Series: Insurgent and Brenda in Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials.
Directing and Major Roles
In 2016, Rosa Salazar directed and starred in a short film called Good Crazy. This film was about a person who tries to help society. It was even nominated for an award at the Sundance Film Festival.
She returned as Brenda in Maze Runner: The Death Cure in 2018.
In 2019, Rosa took on her first main role in a major studio film, Alita: Battle Angel. This movie was based on a Japanese comic book series called Gunnm and was directed by Robert Rodriguez. Her performance as Alita earned her several awards. These included "Best Visual Effects or Animated Performance" from the Hollywood Critics Association. She also won "Best Voice or Motion Capture Performance" from the Association of Latin Entertainment Critics.
That same year, it was announced that Salazar would have a main role in the Netflix horror drama miniseries Brand New Cherry Flavor. This series was released on August 13, 2021.
In 2023, Rosa Salazar was invited to become a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. This is a very special honor in the film industry.
