Story of Epic

The movie follows a 16-year-old girl named Mary Katherine, or M.K. for short. She moves in with her dad, Professor Bomba, who is a scientist. Her dad believes there are tiny soldiers called Leafmen living in the forest near their home. These Leafmen protect the forest from evil creatures called Boggans and their mean leader, Mandrake.

A young Leafman soldier named Nod decides he wants to quit. This makes Ronin, the serious leader of the Leafmen, very unhappy.

Meanwhile, the forest's fairy queen, Queen Tara, needs to choose who will rule after her. She goes to a special field of leaf pods, guarded by a funny slug named Mub and a snail named Grub who dreams of being a Leafman. As soon as Queen Tara picks a pod, the Boggans attack! Tara tries to escape with the pod, but she is hurt by Mandrake's son, Dagda. Ronin arrives to help her, but it's too late. Before she dies, Queen Tara uses her magic to shrink M.K. and gives her the special pod. She tells M.K. to take it to Nim Galuu, a wise glowworm wizard.

M.K. teams up with Ronin, Nod, Mub, and Grub. They learn that Nod has been making bad deals with a grumpy toad named Bufo. Ronin helps Nod get out of trouble, and Nod agrees to help protect the pod.

The group finds Nim Galuu, who helps M.K. understand Queen Tara's message. M.K. also finds out how to return to her normal size. Nod and M.K. start to like each other as they spend time together. But Mandrake finds out where the pod is and steals it, also capturing Mub and Grub. If the pod blooms in darkness, Mandrake can destroy the forest!

To get into the Boggan territory, M.K., Nod, and Ronin go to M.K.'s dad's house to find disguises. M.K. realizes that the Leafmen have been trying to keep her dad from finding them. Her dad sees her when she's tiny and faints! M.K. marks the location of Moonhaven (where the pod needs to bloom) on her dad's map before rejoining Nod and Ronin.

In the Boggan land, Ronin distracts the Boggans while M.K. and Nod rescue Mub, Grub, and the pod. Ronin bravely sacrifices himself to help them escape. Mandrake's bats block the moonlight from reaching the pod, making it start to bloom in darkness. The Leafmen get ready to fight the Boggans. M.K. tries to get help from her dad by using his cameras in the forest. Her dad, Professor Bomba, thinks he's imagining things at first, but then he sees the mark M.K. left on his map.

Professor Bomba realizes he was right all along about the tiny forest people! He rushes to Moonhaven to help M.K. M.K. uses her dad's iPod to make bat sounds, which lures Mandrake's bats away. Mub and Nim Galuu try to stop Mandrake, but they can't. Then, Ronin appears, hurt but alive! Mandrake tries to defeat him, but Nod steps in, finally understanding the importance of working together.

Just in time, the pod blooms in the moonlight, defeating the Boggans and trapping Mandrake inside a tree. The chosen heir to the throne is a flower child who helped Queen Tara earlier. Grub becomes a Leafman, Nod and Ronin become friends again, and Nod and M.K. share a kiss before M.K. returns to her normal size.

M.K. becomes her dad's assistant, and they continue to study the forest. They stay in touch with their tiny friends, keeping the magic of the forest alive.
