Rosine (pronounced ro-ZEEN) is a small, unincorporated community located in Ohio County, Kentucky, United States. It is famous as the home of Bill Monroe, often called The Father of Bluegrass Music. He is buried in the Rosine Cemetery. A special bronze disk marks the barn where his music continues to be played.
The community got its name from Jennie Taylor McHenry, a poet. Rosine was her pen name. She was also the wife of the town's founder, Henry D. McHenry. Rosine has a ZIP Code of 42370 and an area code of 270. It sits about 429 feet above sea level.
In the past, Rosine was a busy place. It had several stores, a school, a pickle factory, and even a bat mill. This mill made bats for the famous Louisville Slugger bat factory.
