History of Ross
Ross has an interesting history with its name. The area was first planned on February 1, 1817. It was named Venus by Dr. Benjamin Franklin Clark. Over time, the spelling of Venus changed to "Venice."
However, there was already another town called Venice in Ohio, near Lake Erie. To avoid confusion, the community's name was changed in 1834. It was renamed Ross, which is the name it still has today.
Where is Ross Located?
Ross is located in the southern part of Butler County. To the south, it borders areas in Hamilton County. These include Crosby and Colerain townships.
Roads and Rivers
U.S. Route 27 runs along the eastern side of Ross. This road is important for travel. It goes south to Cincinnati and north to Oxford.
Other important roads, State Route 126 and State Route 128, go through the middle of Ross. They are known as Hamilton Cleves Road. Route 126 heads west towards Brookville, Indiana. Route 128 goes southwest towards Cleves. The Great Miami River flows along the southeastern edge of Ross.
