Rossford is a city in Wood County, Ohio, USA. It's located along the Maumee River and is part of the larger Toledo metropolitan area. In 2020, about 6,299 people lived there. Two major highways, Interstate 75 and the Ohio Turnpike, meet in Rossford. The city has its own library, the Rossford Public Library, and a radio station called WPAY.
Rossford was started by Edward Ford. He owned a big company called the Libbey-Owens-Ford Glass Company. In 1898, he bought a large piece of land, about 173 acres, next to the Maumee River. He wanted to build a glass factory there, called the Edward Ford Plate Glass Company.
As more and more workers came to the factory, a town grew around it. Edward Ford named this new town "Rossford." He combined his last name, Ford, with the last name of his second wife, Caroline Ross. Soon after the factory was built, Ford also created the Ford Club next to it. This was a place where workers could relax and socialize after work. In 1998, Rossford celebrated its 100th birthday! They built a special memorial next to the Ford Club to remember how the town began. The celebration included a street fair, a parade, a concert, and many other fun events.
Edward Ford's father, John Baptiste Ford, also started a glass company town earlier. It was called Ford City, Pennsylvania.
