Round Lake is a beautiful lake found in Ontario, Canada. It's located in a place called Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards Township, which is part of Renfrew County. A river called the Bonnechere River flows into the lake from the northwest side. This same river then flows out of the lake from the southeast.

Exploring Round Lake

Round Lake is a cool place to visit and learn about! It's known for its natural beauty and the fun activities you can do there. The lake is quite deep, reaching about 55 meters (180 feet) at its deepest point.

Parks Around the Lake

You can find two provincial parks right on the shores of Round Lake.

  • Bonnechere Provincial Park is on the northwestern side of the lake.
  • Foy Provincial Park is located on the eastern side.

These parks are great for camping, swimming, and enjoying nature.

How the Lake Changed

In the mid-1920s, a company called Hydro built a dam on the Bonnechere River. This dam was placed a bit downstream from Round Lake. When the dam was built, it caused the water level in Round Lake to rise. This meant that the land around the lake became flooded. Before this happened, the edge of the lake was about 75 yards further out from where it is today.

Round Lake and the Bonnechere River

Round Lake is the first big lake that the Bonnechere River flows through. The Bonnechere River actually starts much further north, at Basin Lake inside Algonquin Provincial Park. After leaving Round Lake, the river continues its journey. It passes through other towns and lakes like Golden Lake, Eganville, Douglas, and Renfrew. Finally, the Bonnechere River empties into the mighty Ottawa River near a place called Castleford.

Islands of Round Lake

There are a few islands in Round Lake. These islands are:

  • Victoria Island
  • Edwards Island
  • Idylwild Island

It's interesting to know that all the islands on Round Lake are privately owned.
