Rowland G. Garrett is a former professional basketball player from the United States. He was born on July 16, 1950. Standing 6 feet 6 inches tall, he played as a Small forward. Garrett had a career in the NBA and also played professionally in Europe.

Early Life and College Basketball

Rowland Garrett grew up in Canton, Mississippi. He played high school basketball at Rogers High School. After high school, he went on to play college basketball at Florida State University.

Leading the Seminoles

Garrett was a key player for the Florida State Seminoles from 1969 to 1972. In 1972, he helped lead his team to the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship Game. This was a huge achievement for the team.

Championship Game

In the 1972 championship game, Florida State played against the famous UCLA team. Even though the Seminoles played well, they lost the game with a score of 81–76. This was still a very memorable season for Garrett and his team.

NBA Career with the Bulls

After his successful college career, Rowland Garrett was chosen by the Chicago Bulls in the 1972 NBA draft. He was the 78th player picked overall in the draft.

Rookie Season and Growth

As a rookie, Garrett did not play a lot of minutes for the Bulls. However, he worked hard and earned the respect of his coach, Dick Motta. Because of his dedication, he stayed with the team for several years.

Strong Performances

During the start of the 1975–76 season, Garrett showed how much he had improved. In the first three games, he scored a total of 51 points and grabbed 21 rebounds. One of his best games was on October 28, 1975, when he scored 22 points and had 14 rebounds in a win against the Seattle SuperSonics.

Moving to Other Teams

Rowland Garrett's time with the Chicago Bulls came to an end in November 1975. He was traded to another team.

Cleveland Cavaliers

On November 27, 1975, Garrett was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He moved to Cleveland along with another player named Nate Thurmond. In return, the Bulls received Steve Patterson and Eric Fernsten. Garrett played for the Cavaliers for parts of two seasons.

Milwaukee Bucks

After his time with the Cavaliers, Garrett was traded again on January 14, 1977. He went to the Milwaukee Bucks along with two future draft picks. The Cavaliers received Elmore Smith and Gary Brokaw in this trade.

Struggles in Milwaukee

Garrett found it difficult to get much playing time with the Milwaukee Bucks. He was eventually released by the team before the 1977–78 season began. His time with the Bucks was his last in the NBA.

Career Summary and Later Life

Over his five-year career in the NBA, Rowland Garrett played in 263 games. He averaged 5.1 points per game and 2.3 rebounds per game.

After Basketball

Even after his NBA career ended, Garrett remained connected to basketball. He was one of several former players who took part in the Chicago Bulls' 20th and 25th anniversary games. These special games were held in 1985 and 1990. As of 2007, Rowland Garrett owned a company that made chemicals in his home state of Mississippi.
