Roy Douglas "DD" Moore (born June 8, 1921 – died May 12, 2014) was a famous American football and basketball coach. He was known for leading several college teams and helping young athletes grow.
Early Life and Education
Roy Moore was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1921. He went to North Carolina College starting in 1940. There, he played football and showed great talent.
During World War II, he served as a lieutenant in a United States Army radar unit. After the war, he returned to his studies. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in 1947. He continued his education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, getting a Master of Science degree in 1948 and a PhD in 1967.
Coaching Career Highlights
Coach Moore began his coaching journey in 1948. He coached both football and basketball at St. Augustine's College. He quickly became known for his skills.
- In 1950, he was named the Football Coach of the Year for the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA).
- In 1953, he also won the CIAA Basketball Coach of the Year award.

After his coaching days, Roy Moore led the Health, Physical Education, and Recreational Department at North Carolina A&T State University. He worked there for 20 years before retiring in 1986.
