Roy Bunny Milton (born July 31, 1907 – died September 18, 1983) was an American musician. He was a talented singer, drummer, and bandleader. Roy Milton was famous for his R&B and jump blues music.

Roy Milton's Musical Journey

Roy Milton was born in Wynnewood, Oklahoma. His grandmother was from the Chickasaw tribe. He grew up on an Indian reservation before his family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma. In the late 1920s, he joined the Ernie Fields band. He started as a singer and later became their drummer.

Forming The Solid Senders

In 1933, Roy Milton moved to Los Angeles. There, he started his own band called the Solid Senders. Camille Howard played the piano in his band. They performed in local clubs and began making records in the 1940s. His first song was "Milton's Boogie." He released it on his own record label.

Becoming a Hit Maker

Roy Milton's big break came in 1945. His song "R.M. Blues" became a huge success. It reached number 2 on the Billboard R&B music chart. It also made it to number 20 on the pop chart. This success helped a new record company called Juke Box Records become famous. The company later changed its name to Specialty Records.

In 1950, Roy Milton and his band played at a big concert in Los Angeles. It was called the Cavalcade of Jazz. Many famous musicians performed that day. About 16,000 people came to watch.

Later Career and Legacy

Roy Milton and his band became very popular for their live shows. They traveled a lot and kept making hit songs for Specialty Records. He had 19 songs that reached the Top Ten on the R&B charts. Some of his biggest hits were "Hop, Skip and Jump" (1948), "Information Blues" (1950), and "Best Wishes" (1951).

He left Specialty Records in 1955. Around this time, rock and roll music became very popular. Roy Milton's style of music was not as trendy anymore. However, he kept performing. In 1970, he played with the Johnny Otis band at the Monterey Jazz Festival. He also started recording new albums in the 1970s.

Roy Milton passed away in Los Angeles on September 18, 1983. He was 76 years old.
