Graduation at the Royal Military Academy

The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst is a special school where the British Army trains its future officers. It is located near Sandhurst, Berkshire, which is about 55 kilometers southwest of London.

Sandhurst is similar to other important training schools in the UK. For example, the Britannia Royal Naval College trains officers for the British navy. The Royal Air Force College Cranwell trains officers for the air force. And the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines trains officers for the marines.

At Sandhurst, students can take general courses to become army officers. They can also choose special courses to become experts in certain fields. These include training to be medical doctors, veterinaries, nurses, and even priests for the army. The school we know today was created in 1947. It was formed by joining two older schools: the Royal Military Academy (RMA) and the Royal Military College (RMC).
