Russ Parr's Early Career
Russ Parr started his journey in television. He worked at ABC TV, helping with how shows were made. This was his first step into the world of media.
From Radio DJ to Stand-Up Comic
Russ soon became a morning DJ at a radio station called KDAY. He was famous for doing funny imitations of celebrities like Magic Johnson and Ronald Reagan. Russ also spent eight years as a stand-up comedian. His very first comedy show was opening for the famous comedian Joan Rivers!
Russ also appeared in several TV shows, including Martin and The Jenny Jones Show. You might have even seen him in commercials for big brands like Kodak and McDonald's. In 1989, he moved from Hollywood to Dallas, Texas, to work at a radio station called KJMZ.
Russ Parr's Music Adventures
Before he became a well-known radio personality, Russ Parr had a secret music career! He used the stage name Bobby Jimmy.
In the mid-1980s, Russ even started his own music company called Rapsur Records. He released songs as Bobby Jimmy and the Critters. They had some fun hits like "Roaches," which was a funny version of another popular song. Other hits included "We Like Ugly Women" and "One Glove," which made fun of Michael Jackson. Their song "Ugly Knuckle Butt" is still played on some radio shows today! Bobby Jimmy and the Critters released three albums.
The Russ Parr Morning Show
In 1996, Russ moved to Washington, D.C. There, he started the Russ Parr Morning Show on Radio One's 93.9 WKYS-FM. He co-hosted the show with Olivia Foxx. By 1997, his show was the most popular morning radio show in Washington, D.C.!
In 2002, the show became national, meaning it was heard all across the United States. Georgia Foy, also known as Alfredas, joined the show. She had worked with Russ before in Texas. The Russ Parr Morning Show was heard by over 3.2 million listeners in 45 different cities! Russ also hosted a weekend show called On Air with Russ Parr. In December 2023, Russ announced that his morning show would be ending.
Russ Parr as a Film Director
Russ Parr is not just a radio star; he is also a talented film director! He directed his first movie, a drama called The Last Stand, in 2006.
He has also directed several comedies, including Love for Sale, Something Like a Business, and 35 and Ticking. Russ has shown that he can do many different things in the entertainment world, from making people laugh on the radio to directing movies.
