History of Russellville
Russellville was officially planned out in 1838. It was named after Joseph Russell, who owned the land where the city was built. A post office has been open in Russellville since 1848.
The Louis Bruce Farmstead Historic District is a special place in Russellville. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. This means it's an important historical site that is protected.

Education in Russellville
The Cole County R-1 School District serves the students in Russellville. The district has an elementary school and a junior/senior high school. The high school is known as the Home of the Indians.
The elementary school used to teach students from kindergarten through 8th grade. However, in 2022, 7th and 8th graders moved to the high school building. The high school building itself was built in the year 2000.
In 2022, the Russellville high school baseball team won the Missouri state championship for Class 2.
