Where Does Rutledge Creek Start?
Rutledge Creek begins in an area called the Silverleaf Creek divide. A "divide" is like a high ridge of land. It separates the water that flows into one river system from water that flows into another.

The creek starts about half a mile southwest of Slate Mountain Church. From there, it flows towards the southwest. Its journey ends when it joins the Ararat River. This meeting point is about 3 miles southeast of the town of Mount Airy, North Carolina.
