Ryan J. Boyle (born November 22, 1981, in Hunt Valley, Maryland) is a former lacrosse player. He played professional field lacrosse for the Boston Cannons and professional box lacrosse for the Philadelphia Wings.
Ryan Boyle was a star athlete in both lacrosse and American football at Gilman School from 1996 to 2000. He then played for the Princeton Tigers men's lacrosse team from 2001 to 2004. Boyle also represented the USA Men's Lacrosse Team in the World Lacrosse Championships in 2002, 2006, and 2010.
During his career, he won many awards. These include Rookie of the Year in both Major League Lacrosse (MLL) and the National Lacrosse League (NLL). He also helped his teams win several championships.

High School Sports Star
Ryan Boyle grew up in Hunt Valley, Maryland. He started playing lacrosse in the Cockeysville Rec program. He went to Gilman School in Baltimore and graduated in 2000.
Ryan was considered the top high school lacrosse player in the country. The Baltimore Sun newspaper named him their boys' lacrosse player of the year in 2000. He was also named All-Metro three times and All-City four times for lacrosse.
He was also a great football player. He was a two-time All-Metro quarterback. He led his football team to two championships in 1998 and 1999. His team had an amazing 21-0 winning streak during that time. Ryan also kept a perfect 4.0 grade point average in school.
As a quarterback, he had a record of 26 wins and only 2 losses. He gained over 3,500 passing yards and 2,000 rushing yards in his high school career. In lacrosse, he scored a total of 258 points. Ryan also played basketball in high school.
In 1998, as a sophomore, he scored 47 goals and had 41 assists in lacrosse. He helped his team win the championship game 16-12. In 2000, as a senior, he had 36 goals and 44 assists. He helped his team win another lacrosse championship 10-8.
College Lacrosse Success
Ryan Boyle went to Princeton University and graduated in 2004. He was an All-American player all four years he played there. He was named First Team All-American twice.
He helped the Princeton Tigers reach the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship Final Four three times. They played in the championship game twice and won the National Championship in 2001.
Ryan finished his college career with 70 goals and 162 assists, totaling 232 points. He was named Ivy League Rookie of the Year in 2001. He also earned Ivy League Player of the Year in 2002 and 2004. He was one of the few players to win both awards so early in his college career.
Princeton's team won or shared the Ivy League championship every year Ryan played. In 2001, they were undefeated champions.
In the 2001 NCAA championship game, Ryan Boyle made a key assist. He passed the ball to B. J. Prager for the game-winning goal in overtime against Syracuse. Princeton won 10-9.
In the 2002 NCAA tournament, Ryan scored the winning goal with only four seconds left. This happened in the quarterfinal game against Georgetown. He had two goals and three assists in that 14-13 victory.
Ryan Boyle holds several Ivy League records. These include the most assists in a single season (32 in 2003) and the most career assists (86 from 2001-2004). He also holds the record for career points (120 from 2001-2004) in Ivy League games.
Professional Lacrosse Career
NLL Box Lacrosse
Ryan Boyle played box lacrosse in the National Lacrosse League (NLL) for seven years. He played for the San Jose Stealth (2005-2006), New York Titans (2007-2009), and Orlando Titans (2010).
He was picked third overall in the 2004 NLL draft by the San Jose Stealth. In 2005, he was named NLL Rookie of the Year. He also led all rookies in scoring that year. Ryan played in the NLL All-Star Games in 2005 and 2007. He was released by the Philadelphia Wings in 2011.
MLL Field Lacrosse
Ryan Boyle was named Major League Lacrosse Rookie of the Year in 2004. He played field lacrosse for the Philadelphia Barrage (2004-2008) and Boston Cannons (2009-2014).
He helped the Philadelphia Barrage win three MLL Steinfeld Cup Championships. These wins were in 2004, 2006, and 2007. In the 2004 championship game, he helped his team win 13-11 against the Boston Cannons.
In 2011, he helped the Boston Cannons win their first league championship. This was Ryan's fourth MLL championship. He played in five MLL All-Star games during his career. In the 2010 All-Star game, he scored four goals for Team USA.
International Play
Ryan Boyle was chosen to play for Team USA in the World Lacrosse Championships three times. He played in 2002, 2006, and 2010.
Team USA won gold medals in 2002 and 2010. They earned a silver medal in 2006. In 2002, Ryan scored 23 points (14 goals and 9 assists) in the tournament. He scored two goals against Team Canada in the championship game.
Lacrosse Education
Ryan Boyle is also very involved in teaching young people about lacrosse. He works with Trilogy Lacrosse, a group that focuses on lacrosse education. He runs lacrosse camps to help new players learn and improve their skills.
Personal Life
Ryan Boyle comes from a family with six children. His father, Darby, played lacrosse for West Point men's lacrosse in the 1960s. His older brother, Michael, also played lacrosse for Georgetown.
