Ryan J. Boyle, born on November 22, 1981, in Hunt Valley, Maryland, is a famous former lacrosse player. He played both field lacrosse and box lacrosse professionally. Ryan was a star athlete in high school, playing both lacrosse and American football. He continued to shine at Princeton University before becoming a professional player. He also proudly represented Team USA in the World Lacrosse Championship multiple times.

High School Sports Star

Ryan Boyle grew up in Hunt Valley, Maryland. He attended the well-known Gilman School in Baltimore, graduating in 2000. Ryan was considered the top high school lacrosse recruit in the entire country.

Lacrosse Achievements in High School

In lacrosse, Ryan was named All-American during his junior year. He was also chosen for the All-Metro team three times and the All-City team four times. Ryan helped his lacrosse team win two Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) A Conference championships in 1998 and 2000. By the time he graduated, he had scored an amazing 258 points in lacrosse.

Football Achievements in High School

Ryan was also a talented quarterback in football. He was a two-time All-Metro player. He led his football team to two MIAA championships in 1998 and 1999. His team had an incredible 21-0 undefeated streak during those years. As a starting quarterback, Ryan's record was 26 wins and only 2 losses. He gained 3,593 passing yards and 2,051 rushing yards in his high school football career.

College Lacrosse Career

Ryan Boyle went to Princeton University and graduated in 2004. He was an outstanding player for the Princeton Tigers men's lacrosse team.

Princeton University Highlights

During his four years at Princeton, the team made it to the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship every year. They reached the championship game twice and won the national title in 2001. Ryan finished his college career with 70 goals and 162 assists, totaling 232 points.

Ryan was named an All-American four times. He was a first-team selection in 2003 and 2004. He also earned All-Ivy League honors four times. Ryan was the Ivy League Rookie of the Year in 2001 and the Ivy League Player of the Year in both 2002 and 2004. He was also recognized as a Scholar All-American by the USILA in 2004.

Ryan set several records during his time at Princeton. He holds the Ivy League records for most assists in a single season (32 in 2003) and most career assists (86). He also holds the Ivy League record for career points (120). He tied the Princeton record for single-season assists with 48 in 2003.

Professional Lacrosse Journey

After college, Ryan Boyle became a professional lacrosse player, competing in both the National Lacrosse League (NLL) for box lacrosse and Major League Lacrosse (MLL) for field lacrosse.

Ryan was drafted 3rd overall in the 2004 NLL draft by the San Jose Stealth. In 2005, he was named the NLL Rookie of the Year. He also won the rookie scoring title that year. Ryan was selected to play in the National Lacrosse League All-Star Game in both 2005 and 2007. He played for the San Jose Stealth, New York Titans, Orlando Titans, and Philadelphia Wings during his NLL career.

MLL Career Highlights

In 2004, Ryan was named the Major League Lacrosse Rookie of the Year. He helped the Philadelphia Barrage win three MLL Steinfeld Cup Championships in 2004, 2006, and 2007. Later, he joined the Boston Cannons and helped them win their first league championship in 2011, which was his fourth MLL title. Ryan also played in five MLL All-Star games, showing his consistent high level of play.

Playing for Team USA

Ryan Boyle proudly represented Team USA in the World Lacrosse Championship three times: in 2002, 2006, and 2010.

Ryan Boyle comes from a family of six children. His father, Darby, played lacrosse for West Point men's lacrosse in the 1960s. His older brother, Michael, also played lacrosse for Georgetown.
