The Eurovision Song Contest
In 2013, Ryan Dolan's song "Only Love Survives" was chosen to represent Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest. The big event was held in Malmö, Sweden.
He performed in the first semi-final on May 14 and did so well that he made it to the final! In the final on May 18, Dolan competed against singers from all over Europe. He finished in last place, but performing at Eurovision was still a huge achievement.
Just before the contest, on May 13, 2013, he released his first album, called Frequency.
Singles and Cover Songs
In March 2014, Dolan released his second single, "Start Again." The music video for the song tells a powerful story about the challenges a young person can face. The video was very popular and has been watched over a million times on YouTube.
After this song, Dolan was invited to sing at events that celebrate being proud of who you are, like Pride in Newry and Bristol Pride. He released another single, "Fall to the Floor," in June 2014.
In 2015, Dolan was part of the Irish jury for the Eurovision Song Contest 2015, helping to choose which songs got points from Ireland. Later that year, he released his fourth single, "Uptown Downtown."
Dolan also enjoys singing songs by other artists. He has posted many cover songs on his YouTube channel, including "Hello" by Adele and "Pillowtalk" by Zayn Malik. In 2016, he released an album of these songs called Under the Covers, Vol.1.
Personal Life
In an interview in 2014, Dolan shared that he is gay. He spoke about how it was difficult for him when he was younger because he felt different. He said it was hard to find the courage to talk to someone about it. His story has inspired many of his fans.
