Ryan Lewis (born April 15, 1994) is a former American football player who used to play as a cornerback. He is now an assistant coach for the Colorado Mines Orediggers football team.
Ryan played college football at the University of Pittsburgh. After college, he joined the Arizona Cardinals as a player who wasn't chosen in the main draft. He also played for several other NFL teams, including the New England Patriots and New York Giants.

College Football Journey
Ryan Lewis played college football for the University of Pittsburgh from 2012 to 2016. During his time there, he played under different head coaches.
In his final year, Ryan made two important interceptions. One of these was against Deshaun Watson, who later became a famous NFL quarterback. This play helped his team win a big upset game against the Clemson Tigers. He also helped his team win against their rivals, the Penn State Nittany Lions.
Playing in the NFL
Ryan Lewis started his professional football career in 2017. He played for many different teams in the NFL.
Starting with the Arizona Cardinals
The Arizona Cardinals signed Ryan Lewis in May 2017. He was a player who wasn't picked in the NFL draft, but teams can still sign them. He spent a short time with the team before moving on.
Time with the New England Patriots
In September 2017, Ryan joined the practice squad of the New England Patriots. While with the Patriots, his team made it to Super Bowl LII, which is the championship game of the NFL season. However, they lost to the Philadelphia Eagles. He signed a new contract with the Patriots in 2018 but was later released.
Playing for the Buffalo Bills
Ryan was then picked up by the Buffalo Bills in September 2018. He moved between their main team and the practice squad. He played for the Bills for a short period.
Short Stays with Other Teams
After the Bills, Ryan played for a few other NFL teams:
- The Indianapolis Colts in September 2019.
- The Philadelphia Eagles in October 2019.
Making a Play with the Miami Dolphins
In October 2019, Ryan joined the Miami Dolphins. This is where he made his first ever interception in an NFL game. He caught a pass from quarterback Baker Mayfield. He later went on injured reserve with the Dolphins.
Later NFL Teams
Ryan also played for the Washington Football Team in 2020 and then the New York Giants. With the Giants, he was moved between the practice squad and the main team. He was placed on injured reserve in November 2020.
Playing in the XFL
In 2022, Ryan was drafted by the San Antonio Brahmas in the XFL, which is another professional football league. He was with the team until March 2024.
Life Outside Football
Ryan Lewis comes from a family involved in football. His dad, Will Lewis, was also an NFL cornerback and worked as an executive for the Seattle Seahawks. Ryan's cousin, Louis Riddick, is a well-known sports analyst for ESPN.
Ryan has a girlfriend named Michaela Farrer, and they have two dogs, Luna and Ziggy.
On May 31, 2024, Ryan Lewis announced that he was retiring from playing football. He then took a job as an assistant defensive backs coach for the Colorado Mines Orediggers football team.
