Ryder is a small city in Ward County, North Dakota, United States. In 2020, about 108 people lived there. It is part of the larger Minot area. Ryder was founded in 1906.

History of Ryder
North Dakota's first oil discovery happened in Ryder. In 1906, a man named Joe Wustner was digging a water well. He owned a meat market. Oil started seeping into his well in 1908.
Joe Wustner kept his discovery a secret for a while. He even used the oil to power his kerosene lamps. Finally, in 1909, he told everyone that he had found oil. This was a big moment for the area!
