Río Abajo is a small community, or "barrio," located in the town of Cidra, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 1,097 people lived there. It's a quiet place that is part of the beautiful island of Puerto Rico.

History of Río Abajo

After the Spanish–American War in 1898, Puerto Rico became a territory of the United States. This happened because of a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898.

In 1899, the United States government counted everyone living in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. The census showed that Río Abajo and a nearby area called Ceiba had about 1,100 people living there together.

Sectors and Neighborhoods

In Puerto Rico, towns are divided into smaller areas called barrios. Think of them like neighborhoods or districts. These barrios are then divided even further into smaller local areas called sectores (which means sectors in English).

The types of sectores can be different. Some are simply called sector, while others might be named urbanización, reparto, barriada, or residencial. Each name describes a different kind of neighborhood or housing area.
