SV Wacker Burghausen is a German football club from Burghausen, a town in Bavaria. It's part of one of Germany's biggest sports clubs, with about 6,000 members playing in many different sports.

Club History

The club started on November 13, 1930. Many of its first members worked at the local chemical factory, Wacker Chemie. This factory was built in 1914 and still helps support the club today.

Before SV Wacker Burghausen, the first football team in the city was part of a gymnastics club called Turnverein Burghausen. In 1922, the football players left to form their own club, 1. FC Burghausen. This team then joined SV Wacker Burghausen when it was founded. Besides football, the new club also had groups for shooting, athletics, and youth activities.

Climbing the Leagues

SV Wacker Burghausen won the East Bavarian championship just three years later in 1933. After that, they played in lower-level local leagues for a long time.

Things changed in 1993 when they won the Landesliga Bayern-Süd title. This was a regional league, one of the higher levels of amateur football. Two years later, in 1995, they won the Bayernliga championship. This win moved them up to the Regionalliga Süd, which was the third-highest football league in Germany at the time.

In the 2002–03 season, the team played well enough to move up again. They reached the 2. Bundesliga, which is the second-highest professional league in Germany. They stayed in this league until the end of the 2006–07 season, when they were moved back down.

Staying in the Leagues

In 2007–08, Wacker finished seventh in the Regionalliga. This result allowed them to play in the new 3. Liga the next season. The 3. Liga was created as a new third-tier league.

In the 2008–09 season, the club finished 18th, which usually means a team gets moved down. However, they were lucky because another team, Kickers Emden, had money problems and left the league. This saved SV Wacker Burghausen from being relegated.

They faced a similar situation again. After finishing 18th, they were saved a second time because Rot Weiss Ahlen went bankrupt. After two good seasons in 2011–12 and 2012–13, the club finished 19th in 2013–14. This time, they were moved down to the Regionalliga Bayern.

Reserve Team History

The SV Wacker Burghausen II team, which is the club's reserve (or second) team, also played in the Bayernliga (a high amateur league) from 2005 to 2007. This was special because it meant both the main team and the reserve team were playing at a very high level. The reserve team won the Landesliga Bayern-Süd championship in 2005 and 2012. In 2014, the club decided to stop the reserve team from playing in competitions.
