How Saarbrücken Was Formed
The area known as Saarbrücken has a long history. The first version of this district was set up in 1816.
Many years later, in 1974, something big happened. The old district and the main city of Saarbrücken joined together. They called this new group the Stadtverband Saarbrücken. Even though it's a unique type of area, it does most of the same jobs as a regular German district.
Where is Saarbrücken?
The Regionalverband Saarbrücken is a beautiful area. The Saar River flows right through it. This important river passes through the city of Saarbrücken, which is in the middle of the region.
What's on the Coat of Arms?
The original district didn't have its own coat of arms. However, the Regionalverband Saarbrücken now uses a special design. This design comes from the old Counts of Nassau-Saarbrücken.
The silver lion on the coat of arms comes from the County of Saarbrücken. The golden lion is a symbol of Nassau. Together, they show the history of the region.
Towns and Communities
