A Look at Sabana's History
Puerto Rico became a territory of the United States after the Spanish–American War. This happened because of an agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898.
In 1899, the United States government took a count of all the people in Puerto Rico. This was like a first census. They found that Sabana and a nearby barrio called Mata de Cañas had a combined population of 1,089 people.
