Moving to New Rochelle
When Sadat X was 11, he and his family moved to New Rochelle. There, he met his future bandmates from Brand Nubian, Grand Puba and Lord Jamar. His father had a large collection of records, which Sadat X later used for inspiration in his music.
Starting to Rap
Sadat X began rapping after his father gave him a turntable. He was first known by the names "DJ D-Rock" and "Kid Paradise". During high school, he joined a group called the Five Percent Nation, following in the footsteps of some family members and friends.
