Saddiq Jaleel Bey, born on April 9, 1999, is an American professional basketball player. He plays for the New Orleans Pelicans in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Before joining the NBA, he played college basketball for the Villanova Wildcats.

Saddiq Bey's High School Journey
Saddiq Bey started high school at DeMatha Catholic High School. Later, he moved to Sidwell Friends School. He also played for a special basketball team called D.C. Premier. When he was a freshman, he was about 5 feet 9 inches tall. He grew a lot during his high school years.
Junior Year Success
As a junior, Bey was a star player. He scored about 14.5 points per game. He also grabbed 6.5 rebounds, made 2 assists, and got 2 steals per game. His great playing helped Sidwell win a conference championship.
Senior Year Challenges
In his senior year, Bey hurt his ankle. This injury made him miss several games. Even with the injury, he still played very well. He averaged 21 points and eight rebounds per game that year.
Choosing a College Team
Many colleges wanted Bey to play for them. He was considered a "four-star recruit," meaning he was one of the top players in his age group. He first decided to go to North Carolina State in 2017. However, he later changed his mind. After visiting other schools like Wake Forest and Boston College, he chose Villanova in June 2018. The Villanova coach, Jay Wright, had been watching Bey for a while.

Freshman Year Highlights
In his very first game against Morgan State, Bey scored 16 points and got four rebounds. For his first six games, he averaged almost 16 points per game. On January 30, 2019, he achieved his first "double-double" against DePaul. This means he had 16 points and 11 rebounds in one game.
Villanova won the Big East tournament that year. They were the first team to win three tournament titles in a row. Bey helped a lot in the championship game against Seton Hall. He scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. As a freshman, he averaged 8.2 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. He started in 29 out of 36 games. He was also named to the Big East All-Freshman Team.
Sophomore Year Achievements
Before his second year, Bey was put on the watchlist for the Julius Erving Award. This award goes to the best small forward in college basketball. On December 4, he scored 27 points to help Villanova beat Penn 80–69.
His best game came on January 11, 2020, against Georgetown. He scored a career-high 33 points, including eight three-pointers. This helped the Wildcats win 80–66. In the next game, he scored 18 points in an exciting overtime win against DePaul.
At the end of the regular season, Bey was chosen for the first-team All-Big East. He also won the Robert V. Geasey Trophy as the best player in the Philadelphia Big 5. Bey then won the Julius Erving Award. He was the third Villanova player to win this award in six seasons. As a sophomore, he averaged 16.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game.

Playing for the Detroit Pistons (2020–2023)
Bey was chosen as the 19th pick in the 2020 NBA draft by the Brooklyn Nets. However, the very next day, the Detroit Pistons got his draft rights in a trade. On December 1, 2020, the Pistons officially signed him.
In February 2021, Bey was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week. He finished fourth in the voting for NBA Rookie of the Year.
Key Moments with the Pistons
On January 1, 2022, Bey made an amazing game-winning three-pointer. It was in the final seconds of overtime against the San Antonio Spurs. This shot gave the Pistons a 117–116 victory. Two days later, he scored a career-high 34 points and grabbed eight rebounds. This helped the Pistons upset the defending champions, the Milwaukee Bucks.
On March 17, 2022, Bey had an incredible game against the Orlando Magic. He scored a new career-high of 51 points! He also had nine rebounds, four assists, and three steals in the 134–120 win. A few days later, on March 23, 2022, he set a new Pistons team record. He made 192 three-pointers in a season, breaking the old record.
On January 4, 2023, Bey scored 17 points. He also made another game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer. This shot helped the Pistons beat the Golden State Warriors 122–119.
Time with the Atlanta Hawks (2023–2024)
On February 9, 2023, Bey was traded to the Atlanta Hawks. This trade involved four different teams. He played his first game for the Hawks on February 13. He scored 12 points and got five rebounds in a game against the Charlotte Hornets.
On January 28, 2024, Bey scored 26 points. He also made a game-winning dunk right at the end of the game. This helped the Hawks win 126–124 against the Toronto Raptors. Sadly, on March 11, Bey suffered a serious injury. He tore his ACL, which meant he could not play for the rest of the season.
Joining the New Orleans Pelicans (2025–present)
On July 12, 2024, Bey signed a three-year deal with the Washington Wizards. He was expected to miss most of the season due to his injury. However, he was called back from his rehab with the G League team, the Capital City Go-Go, on March 23, 2025. This meant he might return to play within a month.
Before he even played a game for the Wizards, Bey was traded again. On July 6, 2025, he was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans. This was a three-team trade that also involved the Houston Rockets.
