Saeed Ajmal's Cricket Journey
Playing for Local Teams
Saeed Ajmal started playing cricket for his hometown team, Faisalabad, when he was just 18 years old in 1995. He helped his team win the 2005 ABN-AMRO Twenty-20 Cup and was named the best player in the final match. He also played for other teams like Khan Research Laboratories and Islamabad.
Playing for Pakistan
Saeed Ajmal first played for Pakistan in a One Day International (ODI) match in July 2008. A year later, he played his first Test match.
Early International Success
In 2009, Saeed Ajmal was part of the Pakistan team that won the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 tournament. He was one of the top wicket-takers in that competition. He continued to perform well, especially in the 2010 ICC World Twenty20.
Becoming a Top Bowler
From 2011 to 2014, Saeed Ajmal was ranked as the number one bowler in ODIs by the International Cricket Council (ICC). He took many wickets and helped Pakistan win several series. He was known for his honesty and integrity during his career.
In 2012, Saeed Ajmal became the fastest Pakistani bowler to take 100 wickets in Test matches. He achieved this amazing feat in just 19 games.
Playing in England and Australia
Saeed Ajmal also played for teams outside Pakistan. He joined Worcestershire in England in 2011, 2014, and 2015. He was their best wicket-taker in 2014. He also played for the Adelaide Strikers in Australia's Big Bash League in 2012.
Saeed Ajmal's Bowling Style
Saeed Ajmal was a right-arm off-spin bowler. This means he spun the ball in a way that it would turn into a right-handed batsman. He also had a special delivery called the "doosra." This ball spins the opposite way, making it very hard for batsmen to guess which way the ball will turn. He bowled with good speed and used different speeds to trick the batsmen.
ICC Ban and Comeback Attempt
In September 2014, the International Cricket Council (ICC) banned Saeed Ajmal from bowling in international cricket. This was because an analysis showed that his bowling action was not legal. All his deliveries bent his arm more than the allowed 15 degrees.
After the ban, Saeed Ajmal worked very hard to change his bowling action. He got help from another famous spinner, Saqlain Mushtaq. Even after trying his best, he decided to withdraw from the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup because he couldn't fully fix his action in time.
Retirement from Cricket
On November 13, 2017, Saeed Ajmal announced that he was retiring from all forms of cricket. He played his last match on November 29, 2017, for Faisalabad.
