When Sage was 9, he became the youngest person to be on the cover of Sport Karate Magazine. He won 77 world youth championships in karate. He was also an undefeated kickboxer, with a perfect record of 15 wins and no losses.
Sage went to Seven Lakes High School and then Katy High School. In 2012, at age 15, he was honored by being inducted into the Black Belt Magazine Hall of Fame. Sage Northcutt's MMA Journey
Starting His Professional Career
In 2013, Sage Northcutt began fighting as an amateur in the Legacy Fighting Championship series. He had a record of 5 wins and 1 loss. His only loss was in his very first fight. When he turned 18, he became a professional fighter. He quickly built an impressive record of 5 wins and no losses in just 16 months.
Fighting in the UFC
Sage Northcutt was noticed on a show called Dana White's Looking For A Fight. After winning a fight at Legacy Fighting Championship 44, he signed with the UFC.
He made his UFC debut on October 3, 2015, at UFC 192. He fought Francisco Treviño and won by technical knockout (TKO) in only 57 seconds. A TKO happens when the referee stops the fight because one fighter can't defend themselves anymore.
His second UFC fight was on December 10, 2015, at UFC Fight Night 80. He faced Cody Pfister and won by a move called a guillotine choke in the second round. A choke is a type of submission where a fighter uses a hold to cut off blood flow or air, making their opponent give up.
Sage then had a few more fights in the UFC. He won against Enrique Marín at UFC 200 in July 2016. He also won against Michel Quiñones in November 2017 and Thibault Gouti in February 2018. His last fight in the UFC was against Zak Ottow in July 2018, which he won by knockout. A knockout (KO) means a fighter is hit so hard they can't continue.
After this fight, Sage's contract with the UFC ended. The UFC decided not to sign him again at that time.
Moving to ONE Championship
On November 30, 2018, it was announced that Sage Northcutt had signed with ONE Championship. His first fight there was on May 17, 2019, against Cosmo Alexandre. Sage lost this fight by knockout in just 29 seconds. This fight caused him to have eight facial fractures, which needed surgery.
After this, Sage decided to move down to a lighter weight class. He said it would be better for him to fight at 155 pounds.
After a long break, Sage Northcutt returned to fighting on May 5, 2023, at ONE Fight Night 10. He faced Ahmed Mujtaba. Even though he was hit hard early in the fight, Sage managed to win with a heel hook submission in 39 seconds. A heel hook is a leg lock that twists the opponent's knee. This win earned him the 'Performance of the Night' award.
In October 2024, Sage Northcutt left ONE Championship.
Joining the Professional Fighters League
