The Sagrada Família Schools (Catalan: Escoles de la Sagrada Família) were built in 1909. They were designed by the famous Spanish architect Antoni Gaudí. These schools are located near the amazing Basílica de la Sagrada Família in Barcelona, Spain.
The school was originally created for the children of the workers who were building the Sagrada Família church. However, many other children from the neighborhood also attended, especially those from families who didn't have much money. A math teacher and friend of Gaudí, Magin Espina Pujol, was in charge of teaching at the school.
The building is about 10 m (33 ft) wide and 20 m (66 ft) long. It has three classrooms, a hall, and a small chapel. There are also restrooms in an added part of the building. The outside walls are made of brick, built in a special way with three layers. Both the walls and the roof have a cool wavy shape. This design makes the building look light and airy, but it's also very strong. Outside, there were three areas with iron covers, meant to be outdoor classrooms.
Many architects see this building as a brilliant example of design. It has inspired them because it is simple, strong, and very useful. Its wavy shape has even been used by other famous architects like Le Corbusier and Santiago Calatrava.

History of the Sagrada Família Schools
The idea for the schools came from the Devout of San José group. This group was started in 1866 by Josep Maria Bocabella, who also founded the Sagrada Família Basilica. Gil Parés, a chaplain at the Sagrada Família, was a big supporter of the school. He was the school's principal until 1930.
Teaching Methods Used
At first, the school used a teaching method from Andrés Manjón. He was the founder of the Ave Maria school in Granada. But starting in 1915, the school began to use the Montessori method. This method focuses on children learning through hands-on activities and self-directed learning.
School Inauguration and Location Changes
The Sagrada Família Schools officially opened on November 15, 1909. The Bishop of Barcelona, Juan José Laguarda y Fenollera, was there for the opening.
The school was first built on land that was planned for the Sagrada Família church's "glory facade." This spot wasn't needed during the early stages of the church's construction.
The school building was badly damaged during the Spanish Civil War. After the war, it was carefully taken apart into blocks and then put back together. Francesc Quintana worked on fixing it in 1936-1937. However, it collapsed again and needed more repairs in 1943.
In 2002, the original spot where the school stood was finally needed for the ongoing building of the church. So, the school building was moved again. It was taken apart and rebuilt in a new location. Now, it stands in the southern corner of the Sagrada Família site, between Sardenya and Mallorca Streets.
