Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne is a town in south-eastern France. It's located in the Savoie area, which is part of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It's also an important administrative center, known as a sub-prefecture. This means it's a main town for a part of the department.
The town sits in the beautiful Maurienne Valley, right by the Arc River. Long ago, it was a very important religious center. It was called 'Maurienne' or 'Moriana' in older languages.

Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne is found where two rivers meet. These are the Arc River and the Arvan River. The Arc River helped shape the long Maurienne Valley. The Arvan River flows down from the Arves Valley.
