Saint Eric's Cathedral is a very important church for Roman Catholics in Stockholm, Sweden. It is located in a part of central Stockholm called Södermalm. This church was first built in 1892.
In 1953, it became a special kind of church called a cathedral. This happened when the Roman Catholic Diocese of Stockholm was created. A diocese is like a church district, and a cathedral is the main church for that district.
History of the Cathedral
The church was named after Saint Eric, who was an important figure in Swedish history.
Building and Expansion
The original church was built in 1892. Later, it needed to be made bigger. An extension was added and opened in 1983. This was a special year because it marked 200 years since the Roman Catholic Church was allowed to be active in Sweden again.
Architects Hans Westman and Ylva Lenormand designed the new parts of the church. The expansion helped the cathedral serve more people.
