Salvador Bermúdez de Castro was born in the capital city of Spain, Madrid. His father was Manuel Bermúdez de Castro y Díez, who was also a senator and a government minister. His mother was María de la Encarnación O’Lawlor y Caballero. Her father, Joseph O'Lawlor, was an Irish general who served in Spain. Salvador's family had a strong background in public service and politics.
Political Career and Key Roles
Salvador Bermúdez de Castro became a very well-known figure in Spanish politics. He was a conservative politician and a respected author. He inherited his noble titles, the Dukedom of Ripalda and the Marquessate of Lema, from his uncle.
He served as a deputy (like a member of parliament) for Oviedo from 1891 to 1923. This meant he represented the people of Oviedo in the government for many years.
He held several important government jobs:
