Sambaa K'e is a small community located in the Dehcho Region of the Northwest Territories, Canada. Its name comes from the Slavey language and means "place of trout." The community is found near the Alberta border, east of Fort Liard. It sits right on the shore of a lake also known as Sambaa K'e.
This community is unique because it doesn't have a road that's open all year. You can reach Sambaa K'e by a special winter road for a short time each year. Otherwise, people travel there by air using the Sambaa K'e Aerodrome, which is open all year. The community used to be called "Trout Lake." On June 21, 2016, its name was officially changed to "Sambaa K'e" to reflect its traditional Slavey name.
