San Andrés y Sauces is a municipality located on the island of La Palma in the Canary Islands, Spain. It is found in the northeastern part of the island. As of 2013, about 4,473 people lived here, and the area covers 42.75 square kilometers. The largest village, Los Sauces, is about 250 meters above sea level. It is also 14 kilometers north of Santa Cruz de La Palma, which is the island's capital city. The municipality gets its name from two villages: Los Sauces, where the local government is, and San Andrés, which is closer to the coast.

What Grows and Is Made Here?

The main plants grown in San Andrés y Sauces are bananas and a root vegetable called taro. Taro is also known as ñame in this area. It's a starchy plant similar to a potato. A smaller amount of sugar cane is also grown. This sugar cane is special because it's used to make Ron Aldea, a type of rum. This is the only place on the island that makes this rum!
