San Elijo Hills is a special community located in the southwest part of San Marcos, California. It was built by the San Elijo Hills Development Company. This area is home to some of the biggest schools in the San Marcos Unified School District. Unlike other parts of San Marcos, San Elijo Hills has its own town center. This center features a public park with a stage, a clock tower, a fountain, and many shops and restaurants.

In 1769, a group called the Portola Expedition explored this area. They named it San Alejo to honor Saint Alexius. The name "Elijo" is actually an older, different way of spelling "Alejo."

  • 1994 - The San Elijo Hills Development Company bought the land, which was about 1,921 acres. They started planning the community.

There's also an enclosed dog park for pets and jogging paths. A large plaza is perfect for community events. This park is also the starting point for 18 miles of trails. The park's Community Center is run by the city of San Marcos. It has rooms for classes, parties, and special events.
