Double Peak is a cool mountain located south of San Marcos, California. It stands tall at about 1,646 feet (502 meters) high. The paths to the top are a bit challenging, but totally worth it!
Double Peak is a super popular spot for hiking and biking. It has lots of trails and easy ways to get started.
Getting to the Top
You can start your adventure from the north side at Discovery Lake Park. This entrance is just for hikers and bikers, so no cars allowed! From Discovery Lake Park, the trail to the top is about 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) long.
If you want to drive closer, you can use Double Peak Drive on the south side. This road comes from the San Elijo Hills neighborhood. Both the north and south trails are wide and partly paved, making them great for walking or riding.
There's also a trickier trail on the east side. It's a bit rougher with steep parts and rocky steps. This eastern trail is harder to reach, as you have to follow other trails around the mountain first.
Amazing Views from the Summit
When you reach the top of Double Peak, get ready for some awesome views! On a clear day, you can see really far. Imagine looking all the way to Mexico!
You can also spot Downtown San Diego, and even islands like San Clemente Island and Catalina Island. Look out for the Palos Verdes Peninsula, the Santa Ana Mountains, and the San Bernardino Mountains too. There's even a telescope at the peak that visitors can use to get an even better look!
