A Look Back in Time
The area where San Gavino Monreale stands has a very long history. People lived here even during the ancient Nuragic era. However, the main town itself started in the Middle Ages.
For a time, San Gavino Monreale was part of the Giudicato of Arborea. Later, it was taken over by the Aragonese. During the wars that followed, much of the town was destroyed. After these conflicts, the town became a fief. This means it was controlled by powerful families, first the Centelles and then the Osorio families. They ruled the town until the year 1839.
