San Lorenzo is a lively city in Paraguay. It is part of the Central Department region. Think of it as a big neighborhood of Asunción, the capital city.

San Lorenzo is the third largest city in Paraguay. About 252,561 people live here. It is also known as "Ciudad Universitaria," which means "University City." This is because the main campus of the National University of Asunción is located right in San Lorenzo.

History of San Lorenzo

San Lorenzo started a long time ago. In the 1600s, it was a large farm. This farm was run by a group called the Jesuits. They grew many plants there.

In 1767, the Jesuits left the country. Later, on August 10, 1775, a town was officially created. Captain Agustín Fernando de Pinedo helped to establish the city.

San Lorenzo is located in the Central Department of Paraguay. It is only about 9 kilometers (about 5.6 miles) from the capital city, Asunción. The city is part of a larger area called Gran Asunción. This means it's one of the cities that make up the greater capital region.

San Lorenzo shares its borders with other cities. To the north is Luque. To the south is Ñemby. To the west, you'll find Fernando de la Mora. And to the east, it borders Capiatá.
