San Pablo is a small town and a special area called a commune in Chile. It's found in the Osorno Province within the Los Lagos Region. San Pablo is about 27 kilometers away from Osorno, which is the main city of the province. Most of the land in San Pablo is countryside, meaning it's very rural. People here mostly work in farming and raising animals. You can also find fun farm tourism activities in the commune.

A Look Back at San Pablo's History
How San Pablo Became a Town
Long ago, San Pablo was part of a bigger area called the Department of Osorno. It was managed by the main city of Osorno.
On December 22, 1891, a special rule was made. This rule officially created the City of San Pablo. It was based in the town of San Pablo itself. The area it covered included several smaller sections of the Department of Osorno. The very first leader of San Pablo, called an mayor, was Guillermo Heufemann.

How Many People Live Here?
Every few years, a count of all the people is done. This is called a census. According to the 2002 National Statistics Institute census, San Pablo covers an area of 637.3 square kilometers.
At that time, 10,162 people lived in San Pablo.
- 5,210 of these people were men.
- 4,952 of them were women.
Urban vs. Rural Living
The census also showed where people lived:
- 3,478 people (about 34.2%) lived in urban areas, which are like towns or cities.
- 6,684 people (about 65.8%) lived in rural areas, which means they lived in the countryside.
Between the 1992 and 2002 censuses, the number of people living in San Pablo went down by 9.1%. This means about 1,016 fewer people lived there in 2002 compared to 1992.

Running the Commune
San Pablo is a commune, which is like a local government area in Chile. It's managed by a group of people called a municipal council. This council is led by an alcalde, who is like the mayor. The alcalde is chosen directly by the people every four years. From 2008 to 2012, the alcalde was Omar Alvarado.
San Pablo's Voice in the Government
San Pablo is part of larger areas used for elections in Chile. This helps the people of San Pablo have a say in the country's government.
- Chamber of Deputies: San Pablo is part of the 55th electoral district. This district chooses people to represent them in the Chamber of Deputies. This is one of the two main parts of Chile's national government. Javier Hernández and Sergio Ojeda represent this district.
- Senate: San Pablo is also part of the 17th senatorial area, which covers the Los Lagos Region. This area chooses people to represent them in the Senate, which is the other main part of Chile's national government. Camilo Escalona Medina and Carlos Kuschel Silva represent this area.
