Understanding the Sandviken Coat of Arms
The special symbol, or coat of arms, for Sandviken was first given to the City of Sandviken in 1943. In the middle of the design, you can see a picture of a steam hammer. This tool was very important for industries in the area.
When the municipality became larger in 1971, the new, bigger Sandviken Municipality decided to keep the same coat of arms.
What Does "Sandviken" Mean?
The name Sandviken comes from Swedish words. It means "sandy bay." You might find many other places with this name in countries like Norway, Sweden, and Denmark.
