Sandy Creek is a small stream in Oregon, a state in the United States. It flows into the Middle Fork Coquille River. This creek starts high up in the Southern Oregon Coast Range mountains.

Sandy Creek is known for its historic covered bridge. This bridge is now a special attraction in a park.

Where Sandy Creek Flows

Sandy Creek begins near a place called Scott Mountain. From there, it flows towards the southwest. It eventually joins the Middle Fork Coquille River near the small community of Remote.

The creek also flows under Oregon Route 42, which is a main road. Sandy Creek meets the Middle Fork Coquille River about 16 miles (26 km) before that river joins the South Fork Coquille River. This meeting point is close to Myrtle Point.

Sandy Creek has one named smaller stream that flows into it. This stream is called Fetter Creek. It joins Sandy Creek from the right side, just a little bit upstream from Remote.

The Sandy Creek Covered Bridge

One of the most interesting things about Sandy Creek is its covered bridge. A covered bridge is a special type of bridge with walls and a roof. This helps protect the wooden parts of the bridge from weather.

The Sandy Creek Bridge is located in a park near where the creek meets the Middle Fork Coquille River. This park is also near Remote. The bridge used to be part of Oregon Route 42, carrying cars over the creek. Now, it's a display in the park for everyone to see and enjoy.

What You Can Find at the Park

The park where the bridge is located is called Sandy Creek Covered Bridge Park. It has several things for visitors to use. These include:

  • A footbridge for walking
  • Picnic tables, perfect for a meal outdoors
  • Restrooms
  • An information booth where you can learn more

Bridge History

The Sandy Creek Bridge is quite old and important. Because of its history and unique design, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. This means it's recognized as a special historical site in the United States.
