Sanford was once a special area called a census-designated place (CDP). It covered the downtown part of the city of Sanford in York County, Maine, United States. In 2010, about 9,761 people lived there. This CDP no longer exists because the town of Sanford became a city.

Sanford is located at 43°26′24″N 70°46′49″W / 43.44000°N 70.78028°W. This means it's in the northern part of the world, west of the main line that divides the Earth.
