The Sanctuary of the Miraculous Medal and Saint Augustine (Spanish: Santuario de la Medalla Milagrosa y San Agustín) is a special church in Montevideo, Uruguay. People often call it Iglesia de la Unión because it's in the La Unión neighborhood. It's a Roman Catholic parish church, which means it's a local church for a community.

History of the Church
Early Beginnings
The church's community, called a parish, started on October 12, 1849. This was during a time known as the Guerra Grande, a big conflict in Uruguay's history.
Building the Sanctuary
Years later, in 1896, Bishop Mariano Soler blessed the first stone for the church building. However, building such a large church took many decades. The construction was finally finished, and the church was officially opened in 1930. Since then, it has been a very important building in the La Unión neighborhood.
Special Dedication
The church is run by the Congregation of the Mission. It is dedicated to Saint Augustine and the Immaculate Virgin Mary of the Miraculous Medal. Cardinal Antonio Barbieri played a key role in this dedication. Today, the sanctuary is a place where people go on pilgrimages, which are special journeys for religious reasons. In 1975, the church was recognized as a National Monument.
Music and Events
The Montevideo Philharmonic Orchestra sometimes holds concerts inside this beautiful church. This allows people to enjoy music in a historic and special setting.
